Ram Gopal Verma and Chiranjeevi
The 1989 smash film Siva, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starring Nagarjuna, will be re-released in theatres on November 14. Chiranjeevi uploaded a video expressing his support for the film and urging RGV to apologise for whatever he has said about the star in the past. Fans were not pleased.
In a video posted by RGV, Chiranjeevi described how astonished he was after seeing Siva for the first time. He complimented Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni for their performances in the film. The actor also remarked that Generation Z should watch Siva, which was considered contemporary at the time. He also applauded RGV's vision, recalling how he believed RGV would be the future of Telugu cinema.
Ram Gopal Varma publicly apologises to Chiranjeevi
RGV apologised to Chiranjeevi in a video, writing, "Thank you @KChiruTweets gaaru." On this occasion, I'd like to genuinely apologise to you if I ever offended you unintentionally. Thank you again for your generous spirit (folded hands emojis)." Chiranjeevi did not respond to him at the time of writing, but his admirers did.
Fans were not pleased with RGV's apologies to Chiranjeevi. One fan responded with a popular Brahmanandam GIF, captioned "Unintentional?". Another remarked, "Chiru is authentic to the core. It's difficult to be yourself, therefore, I applaud you for seeing it. One fan wrote: "This is Chiranjeevi. A wonderful personality and inspiration to generations. Even his adversaries, such as yourself, bend down and apologise for his kindness and humility."
Netizens react to the apology
A fan returned it to him in his own manner and said, "Hope BOSS intentionally forgives you for all your unintentional mistakes, and you intentionally make an unintentional great film with BOSS." One fan wrote, "Well, you did it on purpose...You cannot take that back, Ramu." Another fan commented, "If I ever unintentionally, teesesi. For the times I intentionally, ani pettandi. (Remove accidentally and write deliberately)." Someone else wrote: "He means apologies only for unintentional comments, not for intentional."
RGV has already criticised Chiranjeevi on social media. When Chiranjeevi returned with Khiladi No 150 in 2016, he tweeted, "It's 636 times Mega dumb to title a film Khaidi No.150 when his film Khaidi No.786 was released 28 years ago." He later apologised. After previously criticising his brother, Pawan Kalyan, the filmmaker has since become less critical of them.
