Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, has reportedly filed for divorce in Chennai, accusing the actor of infidelity. The plea has been filed under the Special Marriage Act, citing adultery as grounds for separation
Thalapathy Vijay
The controversy surrounding Tamil superstar Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, refuses to die down. After a prolonged release controversy over his final film Jana Nayagan and headlines about his upcoming electoral debut, the actor has now been hit with personal news. His wife, Sangeetha, has reportedly filed for divorce in a Chennai court.
Vijay's wife files for divorce
According to a report by India Today, Vijay has been accused of infidelity in the petition filed by his wife. The divorce plea has reportedly been filed under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allow a spouse to seek dissolution of marriage on grounds including adultery and cruelty. The couple who got married 25 years ago will reportedly head for divorce. The case will be heard by the Chengalpattu family court in April.
As stated in the petition, Sangeetha has alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress. She claims, “The petitioner discovered in 2021 that the respondent was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress.” This revelation, she says, became the primary basis for her decision to seek legal separation.
In the petition, she alleged that despite assurances from Vijay that he would end the relationship with the actress, he continued with it. The petition further states, "- Respondent even after assuring to end relationship continued the adulterous relationship without remorse." These assertions form the crux of the grounds cited for divorce under Section 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.
"Since 2021, Vijay had emotionally withdrawn, treating his wife with verbal disdain and subjecting her to constructive desertion, forcing her to live separately within the matrimonial home. Vijay continued to travel abroad and attend public events, with the said actress," the petition further continued.
Sankgeetha also alleged that the actress regularly posted pictures of her outings with the actor on social media.
"The actress regularly posted photographs of these outings on social media. Vijay neither denied nor objected to the posts, thereby tacitly endorsing them," she added.
Vijay and Sangeeta have been married since August 1999 and are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
About Vijay and Trisha
While no name has been mentioned in the petition, over the years, Vijay has been linked with actress Trisha. Rumours of them being close has often surfaced online. Recently, Trisha strongly condemned comments made by Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran. The latter made a personal remark while taking a dig at actor-politician Vijay, who is set to contest the upcoming elections. The remark went viral, with many slamming the politician for its offensive tone and content. On Monday, Trisha issued a formal statement through her legal advisor.During a political speech, Nagendran addressed Vijay’s political ambitions and remarked that he should “come out of actor Trisha’s house” to gain experience and succeed in the field. The comment came in response to Vijay claiming that his party would be a strong challenger in the forthcoming state elections.
“Poor man, he is completely inexperienced. First, he needs to come out of his house. Come out of Trisha’s house first, then something can happen,” he reportedly said- remarks that have ignited broader conversations about the use of personal references in political discourse.
