Sports runs in Sriya’s family. She is the daughter of former Indian Test cricketer Bharath Reddy. Growing up in a cricketing household also gave her an early connection to sports.

When she was a child, cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil visited their home and complimented her good voice.

Before making her mark in films, Sriya was a popular VJ. She began her television journey with SS Music after winning a VJ hunt and went on to host shows including Connect and Phonetastic, becoming known as VJ Sriya.

During school, she received modelling offers, but had to decline them, since her father wanted her to finish her education first.

Though her parents were averse to her decision to join cinema, Sriya signed Balaji Sakthivel's directorial debut, Samurai, discreetly. Her first Telugu film, Appudappudu, failed at the box office. 

She took a year's break before working with Mammootty in the Malayalam film Black in 2004. Her solo Malayalam film, Bharathchandran I.P.S, was critically acclaimed and commercially successful.

Sriya has a distinctive sense of style and has often spoken about her love for fashion. Her personal wardrobe reflects her bold personality.

Fitness has always been an important part of Sriya’s lifestyle. She has spoken about working out regularly and making sure she stays active even with a busy schedule. For her, fitness is as much about feeling strong and balanced as it is about looking good.

Known for her fierce screen presence in films like Thimiru, Kanchivaram and Salaar, Sriya has consistently gravitated towards strong, commanding roles.

Sriya got married to actor-producer Vikram Krishna in 2008. He is the son of veteran film producer G. K. Reddy and brother of actor Vishal Krishna.

Sriya stepped away from acting at a point in her career and returned to the screen after an eight-year hiatus in 2023. Now, with Mahakali, Sriya is set to take on yet another striking avatar.

Mahakali also stars Akshaye Khanna as Shukracharya and the film marks his south debut. It is set to release in theatres on January 8, 2027.
