Bigg Boss 18 runner up Chum Darang hails from Paisghat, Arunachal Pradesh. Before her stint in reality show, the actress has been a part of films like Badhaai Do and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Talking about her family, her parents are Tajeep Darang and Yamik Dulom Darang. She has three siblings: two younger brothers (Tabit and Ninong) and one elder sister (Mitu).
She has won several beauty pageants, including Miss Tiara India International 2017 and Miss Earth India Water 2016.
However, her journey in showbiz was not easy as she was several times trolled for her ethnicity, In a recent interview, she even revealed she faced racism as she belongs from Northeast.
Chum also recalled the emotional toll of being questioned repeatedly about her identity. “When I say I am from Arunachal, it means I am from this country only. If you don’t understand this or keep asking even after I’ve said it, then you should be ashamed of yourself.”
The actress also addressed how the pandemic triggered new levels of hostility against Northeast Indians. “Earlier, people would do racist things like calling us ‘momo’, and later, they started calling us ‘coronavirus’.”
Hurt by the distasteful comments, Chum has given back to trolls several times and stated, "I am a proud Indian and no one can take that away from me."
However, she has been proud of her ethnicity and her Instagram showcasing beauty of her state proves it. She shared this picture donning handwoven Gale, a masterpiece that reflects the beauty of Arunachal's culture.
