Paying Guest – Television debut as Neena (1985)

Before becoming one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars, Madhuri Dixit made her television debut with Paying Guest, a Rajshri Productions series. She played the character Neena and appeared in an episode. The show marked one of her earliest screen appearances and came before her eventual rise to superstardom in Bollywood.

Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai – Turned matchmaker on television (2002)

In 2002, Madhuri took on a very different role when she hosted Sony Entertainment Television’s matrimonial reality show Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai. Instead of judging dance performances, she helped people looking for love and marriage. The show allowed audiences to see her in a more conversational and hosting-oriented avatar.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 4 – Her first stint on the show

Madhuri’s association with Jhalak began in 2010 with its fourth season. She shared the judging panel with choreographer Remo D'Souza and Malaika Arora Khan. Her arrival gave the show a judge with an enormous personal legacy in Indian dance and Bollywood choreography.

Jhalak Seasons 5, 6 and 7 – Continued as the show's iconic judge

Madhuri returned for the next three seasons, working alongside Remo D'Souza and Karan Johar. Her combination of warmth, encouragement and expertise became an important part of the show's judging format. Contestants frequently sought her approval, while her signature dance demonstrations and appreciation for performances became highlights of the series.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 10 – Returned after a break

Madhuri made her comeback to the Jhalak judging panel in Season 10, which aired in 2022. She joined Karan Johar and Nora Fatehi on the panel. Her return brought back the familiar Madhuri-and-dance association for viewers who had followed her earlier stints on the show.

Food Food Maha Challenge – Explored the world of cooking (2011)

Madhuri stepped outside the dance-reality format for Food Food Maha Challenge. The competitive cooking show premiered in September 2011 on the Food Food channel and featured Madhuri alongside celebrated chef Sanjeev Kapoor. The format involved contestants competing through cooking challenges and elimination rounds to find the ultimate “SuperChef.”

So You Think You Can Dance India – Joined the jury (2016)

In 2016, Madhuri became one of the judges of So You Think You Can Dance India, the Indian adaptation of the internationally known dance franchise. She shared the panel with choreographers Terence Lewis and Bosco Martis. The show premiered on &TV in April 2016 and featured dancers competing across different styles and performance formats.

Dance Deewane – Created another long-running dance association

Madhuri became the face of Colors TV’s Dance Deewane when it premiered in 2018. The show's distinctive format brought together dancers from different generations, allowing children, youngsters and older performers to compete and showcase their talent. Madhuri has remained associated with the series as a judge across its seasons, making it one of her most enduring television collaborations.
