Witness a heady fusion of Indian and Western instruments and melodies on the same stage
Featuring names like saxophonists Kadri Gopalnath (Carnatic) and George Brooks (Jazz) on the same stage for the first time, the eighth edition of the Splendor of Masters concert organised by Banyan Tree, promises to have a lot in store for music lovers. “These are combinations that people have never seen before. The idea of this festival is to bring together masters who gel based on their style, music, temperaments and the sounds of their instruments. The chemistry between the artistes and their perfect creative synergy is what makes each act special,” says Nandini Mahesh, concert organiser. The festival started it’s journey with Bengaluru this month and will travel to Mumbai this weekend, followed by Delhi later in the month.

Apart from the two legendary saxophonists, the concert will also feature two more unique sets of artiste combinations. The first is R Ganesh (violin) of the internationally acclaimed violin duo Ganesh-Kumaresh playing with Debashish Bhattacharya (slide guitar), who introduced a new finger style as well as a playing style combining the thumb and index finger. This produces the finest Bole variety, fastest Taanas, and the strongest Jhala, which were technically impossible on a slide guitar earlier.

The other combination will have Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (sitar), who descends from six generations of sitarists and represents the famous Etawah Gharana jamming with S Shashank (flute) a child prodigy who gave his first performance at the age of seven and uses a range of flutes to cover octaves that are not supported by the traditional Carnatic flute.
