Navratri 2025 celebrations began in India on September 22. Today is Navratri day 5, also known as Panchami. According to the Panchang, the Panchami Tithi (vedic lunar day), begins after 9:34 a.m. on September 26 and extends until 12:05 p.m. on September 27. Devotees are donned in green in Maa Skandamata's honor. The colour green is also considered the color of nature. Green colour evokes a feeling of  peace, harmony, and represents fertility and growth and nature’s energy.

Maa Skandamata is the incarnation of Goddess Parvati when she became Lord Skanda's mother. Lord Skanda is also known as Lord Karthikeya or Lord Murugan. Maa Skandamata is believed to govern the planet Budha, also known as Mercury. She symbolises motherhood. She is also believed to have three eyes, four hands, mounts a ferocious lion and holds Lord Karthikeya on her lap.

In this motherly incarnation, goddess Durga is believed to be benevolent, loving and empathic and it is said that she bestows happiness on all her devotees, not letting them return empty-handed. It is believed that those who worship Maa Skandamata will also benefit from Lord Karthikeya. Worshipping Maa Skandamata is said to remove stress, suffering and helps with spiritual growth of worshippers.

Since Maa Skandamata represents motherhood and green is the color of nature, it is believed that those without children who wish to get pregnant, should donate clothes and sweets to little girls. Devotees can also offer green clothes or ornaments to Maa Skandamata during puja to seek her blessings.

Green colour can be paired with classic combinations such as red, yellow, blue or purple. Tomorrow will mark day 6 of Navratri, also known as Shasthi.
