Every year, the state comes alive with celebrations on June 24, celebrated as Sao Joao or St John the Baptist's feast among Catholic communities

However, the festival is very unique from others during this time of the year, as it is distinguished by the act of men jumping into wells and ponds, to depict the Biblical theme of John the Baptist leaping in Elizabeth's womb, when Mother Mary came to meet her
