Monthi Fest is a major Catholic festival celebrated each year by Mangaloreans around the world to mark the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and give thanks for the new harvest

The Monthi fest will be celebrated on the first Sunday after September 8 or on the same day, across Mumbai and several parts of Indian. It depends on personal preferences by the local communities of Konkani Catholics, and more particularly Mangaloreans in Mangaluru and around the world

One of traditions that devotees follow is showering the statue of Mother Mary or the grotto within the church with different kinds of colourful flowers, marking her birthday on September 8, after nine days of Novena

The other unique tradition is the blessing of paddy, followed by enjoying a meal of Novem Jevan, which is a complete vegetarian meal enjoyed across homes
