Buoyed by its <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/september-2016-sales-renault-continues-climb-honda-sees-red-19398.htm" target="_blank">recent success in the Indian market</a>, Nissan is now looking to widen its portfolio in the country by launching as many as eight new products by 2021, informed a company official on Thursday. The Japanese carmaker is also keen on making India a base to export cars.
Nissan also plans to develop some of its future Datsun cars in India, the company's chairman for Africa, Middle East and India region, Christian Mardrus, told Reuters on a visit to New Delhi.

Like Renault, its alliance partner, Nissan is also eyeing the small car route to success as it introduced the <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Datsun/Datsun_RediGO" target="_blank">Datsun redi-GO</a> earlier this year. The car might not be as big a success as its <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Renault/Renault_KWID" target="_blank">Kwid</a> cousin yet, but it sure has imparted a boost to the company&rsquo;s sales for the month of September. Last month, it sold 5,151 units, registering profits of almost 97 per cent in the domestic car market.
As a result of this feat, the company might consider bringing in another small car, in the form of the new Nissan Micra, to India. <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/nissan-teases-nextgen-micra-ahead-of-paris-motor-show-unveil-19343.htm" target="_blank">The fifth-gen hatchback was recently unveiled</a> at the ongoing Paris Motor Show 2016 and will hit the European markets by around March 2017. Expect it to arrive on Indian shores soon thereafter.

At the Porte de Versailles pavilions, Renault boss, Carlos Ghosn also confirmed that the Renault-Nissan alliance <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/renaultnissan-mitsubishi-join-hands-to-develop-subduster-crossover-19388.htm" target="_blank">will develop sub-Duster SUVs, in partnership with the recently acquired Mitsubishi</a>. If that&rsquo;s any sign of things to come, expect both Nissan and Renault to jump into the sub-compact territories in the coming years.

Among the eight new cars in Nissan&rsquo;s plans, could also be the <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/nissan-kicks-production-kickstarted-19187.htm" target="_blank">Nissan Kicks SUV</a> that made its global debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics earlier this year. Among other new cars, could also be the future Nissan GT-Rs, the 2017 iteration of which is set to be launched in India soon.
The Alliance is also working on a <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/renaultnissan-partners-with-microsoft-to-work-on-nextgen-connected-driving-19354.htm" target="_blank">collaboration with Microsoft</a> to to bring in next-gen technologies for connected driving in cars. Though it's still time for this merger to have an impact on the Indian market. For now, one has to be content with the Terrano AMT that the company teased recently.
