Stay indoors
While it may be difficult to follow this, Mumbai doctor Dr Harish Chafle, senior consultant Chest Physician, Bronchoscopists, Intensivist and Sleep Disorders specialist, Gleneagles Hospitals, says it is important to stay inside during peak firecracker times, mostly during the evening and night
Keep windows shut
Even as you spend time indoors, Dr Chafle says you can keep the windows shut for the duration that the firecrackers are being burst by people. Using air purifiers inside your home also helps not only during this time of the year, but also otherwise
Wear masks
If there is anything the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us, it is the importance of wearing masks, especially because of the rising air pollution that gets even worse during Diwali due to the firecrackers. Dr Chafle says wearing N95 masks outside can help limit exposure
Wash your face
Known to be an every day practice that many people follow, Dr Chafle highlights that it is even more important during Diwali to wash your face and rinse your eyes regularly to help remove any residue
Keep immediate medical help closeby
Last but not the least, the Mumbai doctor says it is helpful to keep inhalers and medications nearby is important in case of a prompt response, before you make your way to the health expert
