20-year-old Anukreethy Vas, who was crowned Femina Miss India 2018 is a college student from Tamil Nadu. Anukreethy Vas was born and brought up in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Anukreethy Vas is studying arts in French at Loyola College in Chennai. She wants to be a supermodel and is a fan of ace photographer Atul Kasbekar. Apart from modelling, Anukreethy Vas loves bike riding, singing, dancing and is also a state level athlete

Anukreethy Vas was crowned Miss India 2018 at a glitzy event hosted by Karan Johar and Ayushmann Khurrana. The evening also witnessed power-packed performances by Bollywood divas Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez. The panel of judges included cricketer Irfan Pathan, K.L. Rahul along with Bollywood actors Malaika Arora, Bobby Deol and Kunal Kapoor. The judges' panel also included Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who along with Miss United Continents 2017 Sana Dua, and Miss Intercontinental 2017 Priyanka Kumari crowned their respective successors
During the competition, Anukreethy Vas was crowned Miss beautiful smile and won the Beauty with a Purpose award. Thirty participants contested for the title of Miss India 2018. Anukreethy will now represent India at Miss World 2018 pageant to be held in Sanya, China on December 8, 2018
After getting crowned as Miss World, Anukreethy Vas said, 'I still can't believe that it happened. I've been dreaming for it since so long. There were never any bad days for me because I didn't think about losing or winning. I just wanted to live in the moment. I've waited everyday to touch this crown and now it's with me.'
Anukreethy Vas says she decided to participate in a beauty pageant competition after she saw Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on TV as the Miss World winner. Anukreethy Vas said, 'When I saw Aishwarya Rai on TV (getting crowned), I started thinking about how one gets to be there. That's how it started. I always wanted a platform to share my views and be a great influence on life.'
Anukreethy Vas said during the event, 'After 17 years, Manushi Chhillar has brought the crown to India and I would never want that to go away. I am looking forward to keeping it in India.'
Anukreethy Vas credits her win to her mother. She said, 'I give 100 per cent credit to my mom for pushing me. I am a confident woman today because she has the strongest personality and she has brought me up like that.'
Anukreethy Vas was groomed by Rakul Preet Singh. Rakul Preet Singh is a South Indian film actress and model who predominantly works in the Telugu film industry
During the Miss India pageant as part of the final question and answer round, Anukreethy Vas was asked, 'Who is a better teacher in life - success or failure?' Click on the next slide to know her winning answer
Anukreethy Vas, in her winning answer replied, 'I would say failure is a better teacher because when you get continuous success in life, you will feel content at a point and your growth will stop. But when you get failures continuously, the soul will have the fire and you will keep working hard until you reach the goal. It's always been failure in my life that took me to this position - from a village-based place, from all the struggle, I am here.'
In her winning answer, she even mentioned her mother. Anukreethy Vas said, 'Not even a single person was there to support me other than my mother and I feel only the failures, the criticism I have gone through have brought me up as a confident and independent woman in this society. And experience is always the best teacher and that is what I can tell you. So keep trying. Though the failures might haunt you, success will wish you.'
Anukreethy Vas also won the title of BWAP (Beauty With A Purpose) and her BWAP project was Agni, an NGO that helps educate underpriviledged children. She also helped an orphanage with 30 kids, as well as helping 30 transgenders to study. Anukreethy Vas is close to the subject because she had a transgender friend in school who was abandoned by her family. The family also vacated the house. Anukreethy tried to find her but in vain. That incident moved her a lot

In an interview, on Anukeerthy's win, her mother Saleena Vas said, 'I am very excited, and I am unable to believe that she has won such a huge title and I personally believed she would just make it to the top six but this was surprising and is underprivileged achievement for my daughter and today I am a proud mother.'
'From her school days, Anukreethy Vas was very confident, bold and was never scared of facing a camera, even since her childhood days. Her school gave her a good exposure to co-curricular activities including singing and dancing,' said her mother
Anukeerthy Vas's mother said, 'She said Miss India was just a competition and hence I granted her permission. Never knew her little request would bring something big today that would change our lives.'
Anukreethy Vas's mother fondly remembers her daughter's words to her that the world will look up to her one day and she knows that this is the day. Anukeerthy Vas's mother says post her win, now people will look upto her and that she will inspire others
Anukreethy Vas was highly interested in acting and tried acting in few short films and aspires to be an actress as revealed by her in an interview. She had said, 'I see myself as Miss World 2018 and a well-established actress'

Anukreethy Vas represented her school twice in the CBSE Cluster Athletics meet. She was a long-distance runner and had won two silvers in NCC camp. She was good with western dance and had represented her school several times
Anukreethy Vas said that opportunities randomly walked into her life. She had participated in Fresh Face Contest in Chennai in 2016 because her friend wanted her to participate. According to her own admission, Anukreethy Vas's friend wanted her to accompany her for Miss India auditions but once she got through, she put full efforts because she did not want to regret once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
Anukreethy Vas has always believed, 'The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today. So be the best version of yourself underprivileged.'
Anukreethy Vas has grown up with an idea, 'Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.'
