The Aarey Police arrested four persons within seven hours of a robbery in which the complainant was attacked with chilli powder and robbed of a gold chain worth Rs 5 lakh.

According to police sources, the incident took place on November 23 near Aarey Dairy Road, Aarey Colony, Goregaon East.

The complainant, identified as Mohammad Hanif Khan (45), a resident of Deonar, reported that an acquaintance named Saira, along with an unidentified autorickshaw driver, lured him to a secluded road behind Aarey Dairy. There, two more men arrived on a motorcycle and robbed him of his gold chain after throwing chilli powder in his eyes.

Acting swiftly under the guidance of DCP Zone 12 Mahesh Chimte, ACP Vijay Bhise, and Senior PI Ravindra Patil of Aarey Police Station, the detection team, including PI Mangesh Andhare, PSI Sachin Panchal, and other staff members, scanned footage from 17 CCTV cameras in the area. Although the suspects’ faces were unclear, technical analysis and inputs from informants helped identify the accused.

A coordinated search operation was launched, and all four suspects were arrested within seven hours of the FIR being registered.

Police recovered the stolen gold chain and seized assets used in the crime, including a Pulsar motorcycle and an autorickshaw, together valued at Rs 10.5 lakh.

The arrested accused were identified as Vishal Wagh (27), Namesh Surve (23), Jahangir Qureshi (25), and Shehran Qureshi (24).

“Vishal Wagh has multiple previous cases registered against him, including offences under Sections 379, 392, 324, 506, and 504 of the IPC across Mumbai and Thane districts,” said an officer from Aarey Police Station.
