Following the deaths of four members of a Pydhonie family, the Maharashtra FDA has said no action will be taken against fruit vendors until a direct link to watermelon consumption is scientifically established. Authorities have sent samples for forensic analysis and are probing multiple angles

A day after four members of a Pydhonie family died after consuming watermelon, authorities on Tuesday urged caution, saying no action will be taken against fruit vendors for now.
Speaking to mid-day, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Shridhar Dube Patil made it clear that the department will not rush into a crackdown. “Only once the exact cause of death is established will we decide the further course of action — and that too, only if it is proven that the deaths were due to watermelon, not otherwise,” he said.
