Mumbai Crime Branch has nabbed two suspects for allegedly selling illegal firearms and ammunition in Andheri, the officials said on Saturday.

They were arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch's Unit 10 from Makwana Road in Marol area of Andheri (East), an official said.

An officer from Crime Branch Unit 10 said, "We received a tip-off from a confidential informant that the suspects were coming to Andheri (East) for a firearm deal. Acting on the tip-off, we had already set up a trap at the location from where they were held.”

He added, “The duo came to the spot, each having a laptop bag. The police officials observed their movements, which were found to be suspicious; hence, we apprehended both of them. Upon searching their bags, the officials seized four pistols along with eight live bullets and two empty magazines.

The value of the seized arms and ammunition is valued at around Rs 2.14 lakh out of which the four pistols alone cost Rs 2 lakh. We are further probing the case and are optimistic about making more arrests in the near future, said another officer from Crime Branch Unit 10.

An FIR was registered at MIDC police station under sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act, the police said.
