Mumbai’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested two police officers attached to Wadala TT Police Station, including a senior inspector and a sub-inspector, for allegedly accepting bribes in connection with a dispute case.

According to officials, Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Sudhakar Sarode (52) and Police Sub-Inspector Rahul Ramesh Waghmode (37) were caught in a trap laid by the ACB after they allegedly demanded money from a complainant who was involved in a dispute over a community hall.

The complainant, a 59-year-old man, had approached the ACB after the officers allegedly sought bribes to protect his daughter from being named as an accused in a case registered in Thane on the complaint of his rival group.

PSI Waghmode allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 for himself and Rs 5 lakh for Sarode. He had already accepted Rs 20,000 on September 10 and later took another Rs 30,000 during verification.

On Friday, during the trap, Sarode accepted the first installment of Rs 2 lakh out of the Rs 4 lakh he had agreed to take, while Waghmode had already taken Rs 30,000 earlier. Both officers were caught red-handed in the presence of panch witnesses.

A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the two accused.
