Bollywood actor-director Siddhanth Kapoor appeared before Mumbai Police on Tuesday to record his statement in connection with the ongoing drug seizure investigation, officials said, reported the PTI.
Siddhanth, the son of actor Shakti Kapoor and brother of Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor, arrived at the Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Narcotics Cell’s (ANC) Ghatkopar unit.
Sources said that the officials wanted to record his statement for further investigations in the case.
The ANC has also summoned social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, also known as Orry, on November 26.
Both celebrities were called after their names surfaced during the interrogation of Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh, a key accused in the seizure of mephedrone worth Rs 252 crore.
Police stated that Shaikh alleged the involvement of certain film and fashion celebrities, a politician, and a relative of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim in rave parties organised by him across India and abroad, according to the PTI.
Siddhanth Kapoor had previously been apprehended in Bengaluru in 2022 over alleged drug consumption.
Shaikh, also referred to as 'Lavish', was deported from Dubai last month. He was initially arrested following the massive mephedrone seizure in Sangli district of Maharashtra, and later by the ANC’s Ghatkopar unit.
He was reportedly summoned by the police drug lord Salim Dola allegedly made revelations regarding his association with several high-profile people including actors and social media influencers, sources said, as per the PTI.
According to the police, Shaikh allegedly said that he organised drug-laced parties in Mumbai, Goa and Dubai. He claimed—though without verification—that these parties were attended by Bollywood personalities, a film director, the son of a well-known actor, a Page-3 celebrity, a former Mumbai politician and even a relative of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Police stressed that these allegations are unverified and that no one has been named as an accused solely on the basis of Shaikh’s statements.
Police officials had earlier said that they are continuing to record statements of people whose names were mentioned during Shaikh’s questioning during the investigations into the case. This was being done to independently check and verify each claims made by the accused, an official had earlier said.
