Thane crime: A woman and her father have been arrested for allegedly abetting her husband's suicide in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Sunday, reported the PTI.

According to the news agency, a case under section 306 (suicide abetment) of the Indian Penal Code and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015, has been registered at Badlapur police station against seven members of a family, an official said.

As per case details, Yash Gaikwad (22) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his house on October 28, he said, as per the PTI.

The deceased left behind a suicide note blaming his wife Ankita Pujari, 22 and six of her family members for driving him to take the extreme step, the official said.
Yash had married Ankita against the wishes of her family in June this year. The man was allegedly verbally abused about his caste and beaten up, he said, according to the PTI.

The police on Friday arrested Ankita and her father, while the other accused are still at large, the official said.

Meanwhile, in an another incident in Bengaluru, a woman, who worked as a senior geologist with the Mines and Geology Department was found allegedly murdered at her residence in Benagluru, the police said on Sunday, reported the PTI.

According to the news agency, the deceased woman has been identified as 43-year-old K S Pratima. The officials suspect that the incident took place on Saturday night after she returned to her residence at Doddakallasandra under the Subramanyapura police station limits.

According to police, the death was due to strangulation and a throat slitting.

"As usual, around 8 pm on Saturday, the deceased Pratima returned home. As she did not respond to phone calls last night and this morning, her elder brother came to her house to check and got to know about her murder. He informed the police," DCP, South Division, Bengaluru City, Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad told reporters in Bengaluru, according to the PTI.

He said, "Forensic and technical teams are at work on the spot. Three teams have been formed for investigation. We will be able to share further information, once we get to know exactly what happened."

Noting that Pratima was residing in the same house for the last four-five years as she has been working in Bengaluru Urban for the last four years, the DCP said she was living alone.
