On September 2, the complainant in the case was walking with a bag containing the gold ornaments as well as cash worth Rs 21,380. The complainant had purchased the ornaments from Zaveri Bazaar. On reaching the road near Anjuman Islam School, he found the chain of the bag open and the contents inside it were missing

After a case was registered, two police teams were formed. The technical investigation was carried out on the basis of the information given by the complainant as the scene of the crime was not clear

The investigation led the police to Labbe, who purportedly confessed that he had seen the complainant buying the jewellery from Zaveri Bazaar and decided to steal the valuables from his bag
