Two people sustained serious burn injuries after a bunch of air-filled balloons exploded inside a lift at a residential building in Goregaon West, a police said
The injured have been identified as a 21-year-old student from Surat in Gujarat and Raju Kumar Mahto (25), a resident of Andheri West
Police said that the woman suffered burns to her right hand, neck and abdomen, while Mahto sustained burns to his face
She had travelled to Mumbai for an admission interview and was heading to her aunt’s residence on the 10th floor of Anmol Tower. She entered the lift when Mahto and his associates also got into the lift, carrying 10 to 12 air-filled balloons
Mahto reportedly works for an event management company that supplies balloons and decorations for parties. As the lift ascended, the balloons suddenly exploded, causing panic and severe injuries to both occupants
