The decomposed body of a nine-year-old girl was found in a drain near Marve Road in Malad (West). According to police, the deceased, Afsana Sheikh, had been missing from her home in Malwani since June 19.

The post-mortem report has revealed several stab marks on her body, allegedly caused by an attack with a sharp glass object.
Senior inspector of Malwani police station, Prakash Patil, said, &ldquo;We found the body on June 26 in a completely decomposed state, and had registered an accidental death report. Her family, which had filed a missing person&rsquo;s case, identified her from her clothes. They alleged that she had been killed and we conducted a post-mortem that revealed several marks on her neck and body made by sharp glass.&rdquo;
The SI however, added that it is possible that Afsana had fallen into the drain and had been injured by broken glass bottles.
Police registered a murder case on Friday and are investigating the case from both angles.
