Finally after much delay, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take action against the controversial Shubhada and Sukhada Co-Operative Housing Societies in Worli for illegal alterations made by the politicians residing there.
The Mumbai&rsquo;s civic body has served a notice under section 488, warning of action which will be carried on February 10.
The 14-storey Sukhada and 32-storey Shubhada housing society located in central Mumbai's Worli is home to many prominent politicians and former ministers.

Last year in December, the corporation had served notices to both societies to carry out demolitions of illegal alterations. However, action couldn&rsquo;t be taken since police protection was unavailable.
An official from G/south ward office, who issued the notice, said, &ldquo;Out of 23 people, 12 have complied with notices. The others who have failed to remove illegal construction have been served a notice as per section 488 under the MMC Act.&rdquo;
The demolitions of unauthorised construction of the 11 residents will take place on the morning of February 10 with the civic body having already taken the necessary police permissions.
The information regarding the MRTP violations came to light after complaints from RTI activist Amit Maru.
Last year, the civic body had issued notices to former deputy chief minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, late BJP leader Gopinath Munde, Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil Chakurkar, Maharashtra state Congress president Manikrao Thakre, former ministers Patangrao Kadam, Anil Deshmukh and former state Congress chief Ranjit Deshmukh among others under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning (MRTP) Act for allegedly carrying out unauthorised constructions in their shops.
The top netas had built illegal extensions, converted shops allotted to them into offices and gymnasium and had carried out unauthorised alterations inside the properties. Most notices were for alterations on the ground floor of Shubhada.
