The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken on the high and mighty of Maharashtra politics over Rs 16 crore outstanding property tax dues.
The Mumbai civic body has issued a attachment notice to 14-storey Sukhada and 32-storey Shubhada housing society located in central Mumbai's Worli for non-payment of property tax amounting to over Rs 16 crore.
Top politicians, including members of the legislative assembly and Parliament resides in this twin society. The society was in the news last year for making illegal alterations in their housing society.

The BMC had at that time issued notices under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act (MRTP) to certain politicians who own properties in Shubhada and Sukhada housing societies for making illegal alterations to the flats and convenience stores.
On Thursday, the BMC issued another notice of attachment for property tax dues of Rs 16.38 crore. While Sukhada has to pay Rs 4.42 crore, Shubhada housing soeciety&rsquo;s outstanding is Rs 11.94 crore. The society hasn&rsquo;t paid their dues since September-end.
Top politicians like BJP leader Gopinath Munde, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, forest minister Patangrao Kadam, food and civil supplies minister Anil Deshmukh, his son Salil Deshmukh, governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, state congress chief Manikrao Thakre, NCP vice-president Anna Dange, former minister of state Pratap Singh Mohite Patil, former state Congress chief Ranjit Deshmukh are the members of the society.
&ldquo;If they fail to pay the dues within 21 days, the BMC will initiate further action of attachment,&rdquo; said a senior civic official.
