The Maharashtra Navanirman Vidyarthi Sena, the students&rsquo; wing of the Raj Thackeray-led party, on Monday filed a police complaint against GVK consortium and the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) for charging vehicles that which come to pick up or drop passengers at the Sahar airport in Andheri.
MNS&rsquo; Vidyarthi Sena had earlier written to MIAL asking the authorities to stop collecting an entry fees for vehicles.
MNS youth leader Akhil Chitre said, &ldquo;No other city&rsquo;s airport, except Mumbai, charges for staying more than 5 minutes while picking up and dropping people. It is practically impossible for a family to either receive or see-off their friends and relatives.&rdquo;
He added, &ldquo;They charge Rs. 110 for more than 5 minutes, which is too much for an individual to pay. This is a mild form of extortion and we will not tolerate it. We have filed a NC.&rdquo;
A meeting took place between the Sahar police and MNS in which it was decided that the police would soon come to a conclusion and charge the airport authority accordingly.
Senior Police Inspector, Sahar Police Station, R Patil confirmed, &ldquo;They have submitted a complaint letter to us. We will investigate the matter and resolve the issue.&rdquo;
MNS has been threatening MIAL with action if the airport operator didn&rsquo;t do away with the entry charges for vehicles.
The party members have also been urging that the vehicle parking charges, which are the highest in the country, be lowered.
In a letter to Rajiv Jain, CEO of MIAL, the party activists had stated that the entry charges of vehicles should be withdrawn at both the domestic and international terminal.
