The Bombay High Court has said while there was a “laudable intention” behind the recent police raids on hotels in suburban Malwani following complaints of a prostitution racket operating there, innocent persons cannot be harassed and their privacy should not be invaded

The Bombay High Court has said while there was a “laudable intention” behind the recent police raids on hotels in suburban Malwani following complaints of a prostitution racket operating there, innocent persons cannot be harassed and their privacy should not be invaded.

mid-day had been the first to report the story on August 8 (Couples picked up from hotel rooms, charged with ‘public indecency’). The court has also sought to know under what rules or provision of law, hotels are asked to take down the names and copies of identity cards of those persons who want to book a room.



“Any action of the executive should be supported by legal provisions. After receiving such complaints, we want to know what procedure is being followed before taking action ,” the court said.
