The chaos over the medical entrance test this year is going on for some time now affecting students’ mental as well as physical health. The confusion has even paved the way for politicisation of the issue. Meanwhile, parents across the state continue to press for the reinstatement of CET. Parents and students have sent letters with lakhs of signatures to the Prime Minister and the President, requesting their intervention in the NEET issue. Some parents held a press conference in Mumbai to present their problems and the stress on students.

On Monday, some parents also met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “The chief minister heard the issue very patiently and has ensured that the state is doing all it can in its capacity to ensure that students are not subjected to injustice. The CM will also meet the PM soon to discuss the issue,” said Ajay Gupta, one of the parents.
Another parent, Priya Shah, said, “Students are physically and mentally stressed. It is not a joke to complete the entire NCERT syllabus in just two months.”
Teacher speak
A Biology teacher from a coaching institute, Keyur Cholera, said, “In the NEET phase one, there were a few questions which were out of NCERT syllabus, making it difficult for the students. How can we expect the state board students to be prepared to appear for the test in just two months? There is negative marking in the test, students cannot take risks. We cannot imagine the stress levels of students.
Forget NCERT books not being available in the market, there are no books in Marathi or other regional languages. A decision has to be taken with everything into consideration.”
Ministers’ tweets
After a meeting of education ministers with the union health minister, state education minister Vinod Tawde tweeted, “I am hoping for positive outcome in favour of the students of Maharashtra, helping in safeguarding their future. I have urged central government for an ordinance to stop compulsory implementation of NEET this year, which was positively heeded by the Health Minister.”
Union Health Minister J P Nadda tweeted, “I have noted many concerns about NEET this year. Will soon formulate further course of action.”
