Having failed in an attempt to sexually assault a woman a few days ago, an unidentified drug addict raped her five-year-old daughter while she slept on a footpath in Kandivli (West).

Between 3 am and 5 am yesterday, the man dragged the girl from the footpath in Saibaba Nagar, Kandivali (West), where she was sleeping with her mother and 4-year-old brother, took her to an isolated spot and raped her.
When the girl&rsquo;s mother was shown CCTV footage of the rapist, captured from a camera on the road, she recognised him as a drug addict in his late 20s who had tried to assault her a few days ago.
In her statement to the Kandivli police, the girl&rsquo;s mother has said, &ldquo;A few days ago, when I was sleeping on the footpath, the man who can be seen in the CCTV footage attacked me and tried to rape me.
He is a drug addict and was drunk at the time of the incident. He had been following me and had made lewd comments, but I had no idea that he would attack my child.&rdquo;
DCP (Zone XI) Balsingh Rajput said, &ldquo;We recovered CCTV footage from the road and, according to the survivor&rsquo;s mother, the accused had also attacked her a few days ago. He is a drug addict and we will find him very soon.&rdquo;
