A 25-year-old man, Mangal Prajapati, lost his life when he fell from a platform while trying to catch a moving train and was crushed under it, at Goregaon station yesterday.

&ldquo;I saw the man come running to catch this train which was already moving. He came near the compartment and even grabbed the pole, but by the time we could catch him, he was dragged under the wheels,&rdquo; said Amol Shinde, who was travelling on the train.
Commuters pulled the emergency chain to save his life, and the train was halted at the station for around 15 minutes. Government Railway Police lifted a severely injured Prajapati from the track and rushed him to Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli. But he succumbed to his injuries.

&ldquo;The accident took place at around 10.30 am, while the victim was trying to catch a moving 10.27am Churchgate fast local from platform no. 2, at Goregaon. He lost his grip on the pole and fell under the wheels of the train. It took us around 8 minutes to rescue him, and after that, he was provided with first line treatment by the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) at the station. Then he was taken to the Shatabdi Hospital,&rdquo; said an official from Borivli Government railway Police.
The police contacted the family of Prajapati at Balrampur, in Uttar Pradesh, through the contact number they found in his wallet. Prajapati, a labourer who came 10 years back to Mumbai, was the sole earner of his family and has a seven-year-old son.

&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know how his family will survive this pain, &rdquo; said Prabhudayal Vishvakarma (31), Prajapati&rsquo;s friend.
Doctor speak Medical superintendent of Shatabdi Hospital, Dr Krishnakant Pimple said, &ldquo;The patient was brought alive to the hospital at 11 am. He was unconscious and had a severe head injury. He had also lost his left leg below the knee. For five hours he was on a ventilator in the ICU. He succumbed to his injuries at 5 pm.&rdquo;
After the incident, local trains were delayed by 15 minutes during peak hours.
