A RTI query by a Mumbai-based NGO reveals alarming increase in dengue deaths between 2011 to 2015. According to a report in <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/mumbai-dengue-deaths-symptoms-bmc-ngo-3064146/" target="_blank">The Indian Express</a>, the data obtained by NGO Praja Foundation showed 62 deaths reported due to dengue or suspected dengue infection in 2011-2012. This touched 124 in 2015-2016.
This was in sharp contrast with BMC's claim of only 12 deaths in 2015 due to dengue. 126 people across Maharashtra are believed to have succumbed to dengue.
An even more worrying issue is the number of dengue deaths among the youth with 130 between age 20 and 39 dying of dengue between 2011 and 2015.
In Mumbai, Ward A (Colaba), Ward M East (Govandi) and G North (Matunga) have the highest incidences of dengue infection. 69 dengue deaths were reported from Andheri due to the presence of mosquitoes breeding sites in residential areas.
