Water supply for more than two lakh residents of Ghodbunder Road will be affected due to a major pipeline burst along the GB Road Highway on Saturday. The pipeline burst has resulted in wastage of around 50,000 litres of water, along with massive traffic congestion on the stretch.

The 700 mm long pipeline provides water to the residents of Ghodbunder Road

The 35-year-old line had been laid by the Shahad-Temghar Water supply Authority (STEM) to supply water to the residents of Ghodbunder Road.

Speaking to mid-day, Ravindra Khadtale, deputy city engineer from the water supply department, said, "The burst took place at 10 am on Saturday. Within half an hour, we shut the water supply. The pipeline is 700 mm long and supplies water to the west side of the road."

Khadtale further added that repair work began at 11.30 am and continues. "The reason for the burst is yet to be ascertained," he added. The burst resulted in flooding on Ghodbunder Road near Anand Nagar and led to a massive traffic jam on the stretch.
