Kariwala, who goes for an evening walk for about half an hour every day, returned home from her walk that day to find her cupboard ransacked, and jewellery and cash worth Rs 6 lakh missing. She was baffled as the house had not been broken into, yet the cupboard had been rummaged through. According to police, Kariwala, who lives with her husband Matadin at Thakur Village in Kandivli (East), said she had locked the house before leaving. After the complaint was registered, police officers detained a few persons who had access to the house, namely the domestic help, the building&rsquo;s watchman and the laundry man of the locality. They could have made a duplicate key, the official reasoned. Kariwala then told officials that her neighbour&rsquo;s son, a carpenter who stays in Bhayander, had visited her on the day of the robbery and chatted with her for over 20 minutes. LG Shinde, police inspector of Samta Nagar police station, said the cops then picked up the neighbour&rsquo;s son, Jagdish Sutar (26), by tracing his mobile phone. And after interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Sutar, who was disowned by his parents after he married against their will, told the police that the building&rsquo;s watchman, Deepak Eknath (25), had made a duplicate of the key to Kariwala&rsquo;s house a few days ago. On the morning of December 18, Sutar went to Kariwala&rsquo;s house, engaged her in conversation, and slid the original key back in its place. He then returned in the evening when Kariwala was away on her walk, and with the help of the watchman, robbed the house. The two were arrested for robbery and will be presented in court today. &ldquo;We have arrested the duo and recovered the entire jewellery. The men had spent some of the cash in local bars and wanted to sell the jewellery to celebrate New Year at a fancy party with bar girls,&rdquo; said a police officer. &ldquo;They had even visited a bar and given some money to the bar girls prior to the planned revelry.&rdquo;u00a0
