Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray on Thursday questioned the conduct of the Navi Mumbai Police, alleging irregularities and political pressure after officers from the Nerul Police Station reportedly attempted to serve him a notice at his residence under unclear circumstances. The notice pertains to a case filed against him for allegedly forcibly unveiling a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Nerul.
In a detailed statement, Thackeray recounted the events, saying, “Yesterday, officers from the Nerul Police Station came to my house with a notice. However, I was not at home at that time. When I returned and inquired with the police personnel stationed downstairs for security, they clearly said — ‘No one came.’ So the question is — where exactly were these police officers waiting for me?”

Thackeray said the encounter raised doubts about the manner in which the notice was being served. He further claimed that several police officials privately expressed support for him. “After this incident, several police officials sent me messages saying — ‘What you did was absolutely right.’ I will not mention their names, but one thing is clear — tremendous pressure is being exerted on the police machinery. And everyone in Maharashtra today knows who is putting this pressure.”
Declaring that he has nothing to hide, Amit Thackeray announced that he would personally visit the Nerul Police Station on Friday at 1 pm to collect the notice.
According to officials, a team from the Nerul Police Station had arrived at ‘Shivtirth’, the Dadar residence of MNS chief Raj Thackeray, on Wednesday afternoon to deliver the notice. As Amit Thackeray was not present, the notice could not be served. The case against him and around 70 supporters includes accusations of unlawful assembly, taking out a protest march without permission, and obstructing police personnel.
Since the offences mentioned are punishable by less than seven years, police issued a notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which functions as a formal summons to appear before investigators when immediate arrest is not required.
Amit Thackeray has stood firm on his decision to unveil the statue, claiming it had been lying covered for nearly four months. “Leaders, officers and ministers had no time to inaugurate it, and it was just gathering dust,” he said, asserting that his act was in public interest.
The incident has sparked political reactions, with MNS workers rallying around Thackeray and alleging misuse of police powers. As the confrontation unfolds, all eyes are now on his scheduled visit to the Nerul Police Station, with the party framing it as a fight against political intimidation and administrative pressure.
