A major fire broke at the bungalow of Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi in Mumbai on Saturday evening, completely gutting it, fire brigade officials said. According to the fire officials, the initial cause of the fire seems to be a short circuit. The entire Modi family was present at their Anand Bungalow in the upscale Gandhigram Road area of Juhu when the fire broke. "I'll talk later. I'm presently at the site," said Modi to Sunday MiD DAY in an SMS.
The fire brigade rushed eight fire tenders, but could not control the flames for nearly three hours after the blaze was reported at 5.30 pm.
Meanwhile, scores of families from nearby buildings and neighbouring bungalows pitched in to help in the fire control operations. A N Shinde, deputy chief fire officer, Marol said, "The fire broke at the second floor of the Anand bungalow. It took nearly two and half-hours for us to get control over the fire. The cause of the fire needs to be investigated. Presently cooling operation is on."
