Mumbai civic chief Bhushan Gagrani on Tuesday inspected election training centres at Lower Parel and Kandivali and reviewed the poll preparations in city ahead of BMC Election 2026, officials said.
Gagrani reviewed the arrangements and observed the training sessions conducted for election staff, they said.
The visit was part of preparations for the upcoming elections in city, for which polling will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
First phase of training for election staff
The first phase of training for officers and staff appointed for election duties has already begun across Mumbai.
To ensure smooth conduct of the voting process, training sessions for the poll officials is being organised at seven locations in different parts of the city. These centres include Annabhau Sathe Auditorium in Byculla, N. M. Joshi Marg Municipal School at Curry Road, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital Auditorium in Sion (East), Balgandharva Auditorium at Link Road in Bandra, Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha in Vile Parle, Mahakavi Kalidas Natyagruha in Mulund (West) and Prabodhankar Keshav Sitaram Thackeray Natyagruha in Borivali (West), the officials said.
The poll officials were being given training to ensure smooth voting in city.
Focus on voting procedures and EVM handling
An official statement said that during his visit to the N. M. Joshi Marg Municipal School at Lower Parel and the Prabodhankar Keshav Sitaram Thackeray Natyagruha at Kandivali, Gagrani attended the training sessions and took a detailed review of the entire process.
He gathered information on the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM), including the Ballot Unit (BU) and Control Unit (CU), the procedure for conducting mock polls, and the steps to be followed on polling day.
Senior officials present during inspection
Several senior officers from the election department were present during the inspection. These included Special Officer (Election) Vijay Balamwar, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 7) Sanjay Kurhade, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 2) Prashant Sapkale, Assistant Commissioner (G South Ward) Swapnaja Kshirsagar, and Assistant Commissioner (R Central Ward) Praful Tambe, along with other officials, the official statement said.
The inspection aimed to ensure that all election personnel are well-trained and fully prepared to conduct the voting process efficiently and transparently, said an official.
