The name of former top cop Julio Ribeiro features right at the crest of the list of panellists who 'selected' the 59 persons ready to contest BMC polls as citizen candidates under the banner of Mumbai 227. However, Ribeiro told this reporter that he didn't select a single contestant. Similarly, another panellist, business leader Dolphy D'souza, says he was out of town when the whole process of selection took place. Irked? When MiD DAY asked Ribeiro what his contribution has been towards Mumbai 227 as his name is part of the selection panel, he said, "Yes, I was asked to be on the panel, and I had agreed. However, I had asked them to send me CVs of the candidates. But I didn't get any, and hence, I didn't select any candidates. I had already told them that I won't be campaigning and also won't vote specifically for Mumbai 227."
Ribeiro claims he will vote for the candidate he deems best for his constituency and it may or may not be a Mumbai 227 member.
