Inspired by documentary on global warming, school kids act on their emotions and buy 300 solar lanterns for villagers
Std VIII students of the Cathedral and John Connon School (Fort) bubbling over with enthusiasm after the screening of the Al Gore movie, An Inconvenient Truth, in school, decided to do something that would prevent global warming.
The students, who came together to form the Global Warming Prevention group, recently distributed unique solar lanterns to villages on the outskirts of Mumbai.
The teenagers say, "We collected money from various corporates, banks, generous individuals and bought 300 solar lanterns, which we distributed to villages on the outskirts of the city."

These urbane youngsters who are more familiar with laptops than lanterns say, "The villagers have no light at home, except for little diyas and even in the day, it's pitch dark inside their home.

We were happy to show them how to use the lantern and bring some light into their lives. Some put the lanterns on their bicycles too, as by 6 pm it's completely dark in the village."
