Ahead of the annual Erangal Fair 2026, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking on Friday announced that it will run 57 additional buses in Mumbai's Malad and adjoining areas to ensure smooth and convenient travel for people visiting the annual fair.
The Erangal Fair is held every year on the second Sunday of January at Malad (West) in Mumbai.
The religious fair attracts a large number of devotees who visit the church at Erangal village.
To facilitate smooth travel for devotees, the BEST undertaking has announced special bus services on the occasion, officials said.
Special routes and increased frequency
According to an official statement, the BEST will operate special buses on Route No. 271, running between Malad Station (West) and Erangal village, and between Madh Jetty and Erangal village.
In addition, special buses will also run on Route No. A-269 between Borivali Station (West) and Madh Jetty.
The number of buses on these routes will be increased as required to manage the heavy rush of passengers.
Extra services from Malad station
Many devotees are expected to arrive at Malad Station (West) by suburban trains and then travel onwards by bus. Considering this, BEST will operate additional bus trips between Malad Station (West), Erangal village, Madh Jetty and Madh Chowpatty, the statement said.
Staff deployed from nearby depots
To manage the additional services and passenger flow, bus inspectors and traffic officers will be temporarily deployed from nearby depots, including Magathane, Poinsur, Dindoshi, Goregaon and Oshiwara.
57 additional buses
This year, BEST will operate a total of 57 additional buses throughout the day for the Erangal. These services will run from 6 am to 10 pm.
The BEST administration has appealed to passengers to make use of the additional bus services arranged specifically for the Erangal to ensure safe and convenient travel, officials said.
St. Bonaventure
It is an annual reunion of the East Indian community, celebrated on the second Sunday of January at St Bonaventure church. People from various gaothans in Mumbai arrive for the mass.
Built nearly five centuries ago during the Portuguese era, the church is a significant pilgrimage site. The novena prayers are part of the spiritual preparations leading up to the feast of St. Bonaventure.
The church, constructed with stone and lime mortar, features a marble plaque that outlines its rich history. Visitors from Mumbai can reach the church by taking a ferry from Versova to Madh.
