The Khar police are searching for a fake baba who deceived a woman and fled with her 1.5 tola gold chain in the Khar Danda area on May 9. According to officials, the accused, dressed as a sadhu, entered the housing society in broad daylight, claiming he could solve the woman’s problems and improve her financial condition before escaping with her jewellery.

The victim, a 60-year-old, reported the incident. Police suspect the accused is a habitual offender. An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident took place around 11 am on May 9. The accused was dressed in white attire typically worn by sadhus and was carrying a bag and a spiritual book.
A police officer said, “The fake baba told the woman that he could solve all her problems through spiritual rituals and pooja at home. He claimed these rituals would help improve her financial condition and asked her to hand over her gold chain for the rituals.”

“The woman gave him the gold chain, which he wrapped in a cloth. She trusted him and also gave him some money for the rituals. During the pooja, the accused managed to steal the chain and replaced it with an empty cloth. He handed it back to her and left. When she later opened the cloth, she realised her jewellery was missing and understood she had been cheated,” the officer added.

The woman immediately informed the Khar police and filed an FIR against the unidentified man. An officer from Khar police station said, “We have registered an FIR in this matter. The woman was deceived by the fake baba, who promised to solve her problems and improve her financial situation. We are currently tracing the accused.”
