A massive fire broke out late on Thursday night at a manufacturing unit in the Rabale MIDC industrial area of Navi Mumbai, gutting large portions of the facility and causing extensive property damage.

According to officials, the blaze erupted around 2 am at Jel Pharmaceuticals, located on Plot No R/N 952 in the Rabale MIDC zone. The company is said to be involved in the production of wax-based products, which may have intensified the flames.

The fire, which broke out under mysterious circumstances, quickly spread through the plant premises. Multiple fire engines from the Navi Mumbai Fire Brigade were rushed to the spot, and firefighters have been battling the flames for nearly 12 hours. Despite continuous efforts, the fire is yet to be completely brought under control.

Senior Inspector Sunil Waghmare from Rabale MIDC Police Station said, “The firefighting operation is still underway. Thankfully, there have been no casualties or injuries reported so far.”

Preliminary reports indicate heavy loss of equipment, stock, and raw materials. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, though officials have not ruled out a short circuit or chemical reaction due to the nature of the products manufactured at the plant.

Cooling operations and damage assessment are expected to continue through Friday night.
