A sketch of the proposed buildings for ministers and bureaucrats</td></tr></tbody></table>STATE Government bodies seem to have become more aesthetically oriented and are now conceptualising and designing unique looking buildings in Mumbai. The most recent will be the Income Tax department, which will find a new home at Nariman Point. Eye-catching monuments The IT department will construct a Rs 51 crore office-cum-residence building beside the NCPA on 3,333 sq yards of space. The plan is to make this 12-storey building look like a flotilla of sails against the Arabian Sea. S G Srivastav, IRS, Income Tax department said, "The design for this building will be prepared by British architects Chapman Taylor and Company." In addition, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) are also planning the world's tallest 101-storey iconic structure at Wadala TT. It is to stand at a height of 526 metres (1725.28 ft). The tower will have five floors for parking and 16 for other essential services and remaining 80 floors will be leased out for office spaces, commercial and entertainment facilities. The Rs 4,100 crore project is in the process of being submitted to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for approval. Ratnakar Gaikwad, MMRDA Commissioner said, "UPS Madan, project manager, Mumbai Transformation Support Unit (MTSU) had said that the idea is to construct an iconic building that would be symbolic for the city." MMRDA is also working on plans to construct a cantilever building for itself at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Work on this structure hasn't yet started but MMRDA expects it to complete by 2010-11. This Rs 49 crore structure will be a podium plus nine storey office-cum-staff quarters for the MMRDA officials. City based Team One Architect have been selected for constructing this building. Mantralaya too, is going on an overhaul as the state Government has planned an Rs 1,000 crore makeover. A proposal to build three twin towers in place of the minister's cottage, an underground parking and tunnel has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure. The tunnel will connect Mantralaya building to Vidhan Bhavan while 30 sprawling duplexes for ministers and 60 flats for secretaries will be constructed.
