Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar held a meeting in the state secretariat in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The construction work of the Mumbai-Goa Highway should be completed urgently in view of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed officials on Wednesday. A fund of Rs 21 crore will be allocated for the development of roads near the Indapur-Mangao stretch on the highway, Pawar stated.
The meeting was held in the state secretariat, where the Deputy CM stated that the remaining works on the Mumbai-Goa Highway be completed on a "mission mode" basis, under the chairmanship of the Public Works Minister Shivendraraje Bhosale. He also announced the formation of a state-level committee to oversee the work and ensure its timely completion.
Women and Child Development Women Aditi Tatkare, Member of Parliament (MP) Sunil Tatkare, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) OP Gupta, and Planning Department Secretary Dr Rajgopal Devra, among other officials, attended the meeting.

The deputy CM further directed the officials to appointed two special officers to address dangerous potholes on the roads. The contact details of the officials have to be made available to the public for swift action on complaints, he stated.
The Mumbai-Goa Highway sees heavy traffic during Ganesh Chaturthi, as many from Konkan head to their hometowns. The CM said no major construction work, which could hinder the smooth travel of Ganesh devotees, should take place during the festive period.
Pawar specifically pointed out the need to focus on areas such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, where traffic congestion is more common. The local administrations in these districts must inspect these areas and ensure strict traffic management, he instructed. Additionally, arrangements for heavy vehicles and other traffic should be made, while emergency services should be readily available, particularly on hilly and winding routes. Local authorities must also ensure adequate medical facilities are in place, the deputy CM said.
The meeting was attended virtually by Konkan Division Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi, Raigad District Collector Kisan Javali, Raigad SP Anchal Dalal, SP Traffic NH Tanaji Chikhale, Chief Engineer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Prashant Fegde, NHAI's Regional Officer Anshumali Srivastava, Chief Engineer of National Highways for Konkan Division Santosh Shelar, and others.
