The Maharashtra government intends to revoke all fraudulent birth certificates issued to Bangladeshi nationals illegally residing in the state by 15th August, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
During a press conference, Bawankule revealed that 42,000 such cases have already been identified, though he noted that the actual figure is likely higher and will be confirmed by officials.
"By August 15, fake birth certificates given to Bangladeshis (staying illegally in the state) will be cancelled," Bawankule stated, adding that copies of these cancelled certificates must be sent to both the Department of Revenue and the Department of Health.

Furthermore, in 2024, 716 illegal Bangladeshi residents were arrested and 202 were deported. By March 2024, action had been taken against 600 Bangladeshis illegally residing in the state.
