Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said nearly 2.71 lakh investors in Mumbai were duped of a whopping Rs 2.95 lakh crore in the last 10 years, reported news agency PTI.

In a written reply to a question in the legislative council on Wednesday, Fadnavis said nearly 1.05 crore investors were duped of Rs 22,552 crore in Maharashtra, excluding Mumbai, in the last 10 years.

"In Mumbai, the Economic Offence Wing (of the Mumbai Police) reported that 2.71 lakh investors were duped of Rs 2,95,451 crore in the last ten years," the written reply said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

From 2016 to 2025, a total of 46,321 cybercrime cases involving financial fraud of Rs 11,033.97 crore were registered in the state.

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal received 58,157 cases from Maharashtra in 2024 involving financial fraud of Rs 1,186.46 crore, which included 31,583 cases from Mumbai, 13,971 from Pune and 12,582 from Thane, Fadnavis said in his reply, reported PTI.

Currently, there are 50 cyber police stations in the state that are operational.

To get tip-offs on different financial schemes that could lead to duping of investors, Mumbai Police and different police units in the state have formed a Financial Intelligence Unit.

Hydro ganja proving to be a challenge: Fadnavis

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday that 'hydro' ganja is proving to be a big challenge for the government and asserted that the Centre and state have intensified their fight against the drug business.

Replying to a calling attention motion in the legislative council, he also raised concerns over synthetic drugs and said that even terminal cancer patients are being used as drug carriers.

The number of cases has increased because of the government's anti-drug crackdown, he said.

It was found that ports in Gujarat and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the country's largest container port located in Maharashtra's Raigad district, were used to bring in drugs concealed in cargo consignments, he said.

"Scanners that can detect concealed drugs have been installed in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Randomised checking of shipments from certain countries, where there is a possibility of drug supply, is being done," he said.

Five days ago, two Indonesian nationals were arrested with 21 kg of hydroponic ganja valued at Rs 21.55 crore in Mumbai, he said.
