A 25-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of friends following a dispute in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Sunday.

According to PTI, the incident occurred on Saturday night in the New Azad Nagar locality. According to an official from the Shanti Nagar police station, the victim was walking home with the accused when an argument broke out over a previous issue.

The quarrel escalated, and the group allegedly attacked the victim, beating him severely. Police rushed to the scene after being alerted and sent the body for postmortem examination.

Based on a complaint filed by a family member of the deceased, a case of murder was registered against five individuals, including three brothers, who have since been arrested. A search is underway to trace the remaining accused, the official added.

Man accused of co-worker's murder in Palghar nabbed from ship in Gujarat

A 35-year-old man accused of killing his co-worker in Maharashtra’s Palghar district was apprehended from a ship docked at Okha Port in Gujarat, police said on Sunday.

According to the news agency PTI, the incident occurred on September 7 at a private company located in Vasai (East), under the jurisdiction of Naigaon Police Station.

The accused and the victim were employed at the same company. According to Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kadam, the company owner had transferred funds meant for meal expenses to the accused's account, which were to be shared equally with the victim.

However, the accused allegedly withheld the money, leading to a heated argument. During the altercation, he reportedly attacked the victim with a sharp weapon, causing grievous injuries to his head, eyes, and hand, before fleeing the scene.

As per PTI, initially, a case was registered against the accused under sections related to voluntarily causing hurt. However, following Saroj's death during treatment, the charges were upgraded to murder, police said.

Following a technical analysis and intelligence gathering, investigators traced the accused to Okha Port in Dwarka, Gujarat, where he was believed to be hiding aboard a ship.

A team from the Naigaon crime detection branch launched an extensive operation, inspecting over 200 vessels in the port area. The accused was eventually located and taken into custody on October 2, and later brought back to Palghar for further legal proceedings.

The accused, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in Vasai prior to the incident, officials added.
