Residents of the housing societies are now getting cleaner water after mid-day highlighted their problem in the July 18 article, ‘Aila! Sachin’s former locality has a bad H2O problem’. The issue of contaminated water in Kalanagar has been resolved, and residents of three major housing societies in Bandra East — Patrakar, Sahitya Sahawas, and Kalabhushan — no longer have to deal with the murky brown tap water that had earlier forced many of them to depend on packaged drinking water.

Sonal Kotnis, a resident of Patrakar Society, said, “We are getting clean water now, but we hope this continues properly. Since this is the second time we’re facing this issue, we’re all sceptical.” Kotnis, along with other residents of the area, is now observing the water and checking whether it returns to the same murkiness or remains clean for use.

“We’ve been monitoring the water, and even our watchman reported today that it looks better. Once we see this trend continue for a few days, we’ll inform the ward so they can close the holes dug up in the road,” Kotnis added.

Another concern for the residents is the sediment from the previously dirty water that has settled at the bottom of their water tanks. “Once we’re sure the water is clean, we’ll have to get our tanks cleaned as well. The residents can get sick if the sediment mixes with the now-clean water. The ward has given us instructions on how to do this. We will confirm with them again and follow the steps once we see consistent improvement,” said Kotnis. Residents of all three societies now hope the issue doesn’t resurface.

Sudhir Jadhav, Assistant Engineer of H East Ward, told mid-day, “We acted on the complaints raised by residents and identified two to three leaks, which we have now fixed. The road has been dug up in two places where the leaks were found and repaired. We've kept them open for now so that residents can monitor the water quality for a few more days. If the issue persists, we will look into it again.”
