Ten days ago, three men posing as Railway Protection Force (RPF) cops robbed a 28-year-old banker of Rs 20,000 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). However, when the victim went to the GRP police station at CST to register an FIR right after the incident, cops turned him away and lodged an FIR only after three hours of the incident. They still haven&rsquo;t managed to catch hold of the accused.

The incident took place on February 23 when banker Mangla Chaubey was returning home from his Nariman Point office. He left from office at 8 pm and took cab for CST railway station.

Speaking to mid-day, Chaubey said, &ldquo;I entered the CST railway station and went to wash my face near the RPF chowky at platform number 1. Since it was a Tuesday, I was fasting and therefore felt a little weak. Just as I finished washing my face, two men caught me from behind and asked me to come with them.&rdquo;

&lsquo;We are from RPF&rsquo; &ldquo;One of them caught me from the neck. Initially, I thought they have caught me because I was standing near the harbour railway platform even though I have a central line pass. Later, they took me to platform number 7 near an ATM and asked me to give Rs 5,000. When I asked them what they needed the money for, they started slapping me. They told me that they are from the RPF.&rdquo;

Whenever Chaubey asked any question, he was slapped by the two accused. They took him near a bus depot where another accomplice was waiting. &ldquo;Now, all three of them told me that they are RPF officers and asked me to pay them. Every time I asked a question, they slapped me and told me they are policemen. They removed my wallet and took out my debit card.&rdquo;
One of the accused asked Chaubey for his password, hit him and then went to an ATM and withdrew R20,000 from Chaubey&rsquo;s account. He said, &ldquo;As soon as the money was withdrawn, I received a message on my phone. The accused took my phone and deleted the message. They hit me once again and left. I rushed to an ATM and removed a mini bank statement and went to the GRP police station at CST.&rdquo;
Cops start arguing Even at the RPF station, Chaubey&rsquo;s troubles were far from over. He said, &ldquo;Here, instead of filing a case, the cops started arguing with me. They told me that I am lying and I must have given them [the accused] money and come for a false complaint.&rdquo;
Chaubey added, &ldquo;Later I used some of my connections, after which at 12.30 am, an FIR was registered by the police. If the cops had acted on time, the accused might have been caught.&rdquo;
He added, &ldquo;I am shocked that such an incident took place at the city&rsquo;s busiest railway station CST, which is crowded all the time. And with the careless approach of the police, more such incidents will take place.&rdquo;
mid-day contacted RPF officials, but they refused to comment on the matter.
He added, &ldquo;I work as a branch officer with a private bank near NCPA at Nariman Point. I have been travelling from Kurla to CST for the past eight years. Never in these eight years have I heard of or experienced such a thing. Almost 10 days have passed since the incident, but the cops have done nothing. In fact, I am personally getting CCTV footage and sending it to the cops.&rdquo;
