A man and his son were killed, while another person sustained serious injuries, after a speeding truck rammed into an autorickshaw and then hit a motorcycle in Nalasopara area of Palghar district, near Mumbai, on Sunday, police said.

The accident, which took place at Pelhar, has been captured on CCTV footage from the area. Traffic movement on the route was disrupted for some time following the collision.


According to an officer from Pelhar Police Station, the truck, which was heading from Mumbai towards Gujarat, lost control, first crashing into an autorickshaw and then hitting a motorcycle. The autorickshaw was completely crushed due to the impact.



“A man and his son travelling in the autorickshaw died on the spot. A motorcyclist was seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital,” the officer said.

The victims were identified as Sajad Usmani and his son Atif, the police added.

Their bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. The road was later cleared for traffic.

No arrest has been made so far, though a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

In a separate incident in Pune, two cousins, both aged 23, were killed and another person sustained critical injuries after a car crashed under the Bund Garden Metro Station area early Sunday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 5.30 am, according to Pune City Police. The car was travelling along the Bund Garden stretch when the mishap took place.

The victims were identified as Yash Prasad Bhandari, a resident of Thergaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Ritvik alias Om Vinayak Bhandari, a resident of Pimprigaon in Pune.

The injured passenger, Khushwant Tekwani, a resident of Beed, has been admitted to Sassoon Hospital in critical condition.

Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.

One injured after speeding container truck crashes into road divider in Thane

One person was injured after a speeding container truck crashed into a road divider in Thane city during the early hours of Sunday, officers said.

The accident took place near the Cadbury Bridge exit around 7 am, leading to traffic congestion on the busy route, a police officer said.

According to the officer, the container truck was travelling from Kalamboli towards Gujarat when the 50-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the divider.

The driver, identified as Kamta Pal, sustained a head injury and was rushed to the civil hospital for treatment. A hydra machine and a fire brigade vehicle were deployed to clear the damaged truck from the road, the official added.
