In the latest incident of road rage, a BEST bus driver was injured after an autorickshaw driver allegedly ran over his foot during an argument near Sai Prasad Hotel, Kherwadi Junction, Bandra East, on Wednesday morning.

Ahmad Aslam Mirza, 38, a resident of Chembur employed as a BEST driver, was on duty operating on route number 255 (Pratikshyanagar-Juhu) on Wednesday, along with conductor Vaibhav Ramesh Kamble. According to Mirza’s complaint, the incident occurred around 9 am near Sai Prasad Hotel. An autorickshaw suddenly turned left in front of the bus, blocking its way. Mirza stopped the bus to confront the rickshaw driver, which soon escalated into an altercation.

The rickshaw driver allegedly abused and argued with Mirza, blaming him for obstructing the road. When Mirza tried to reason with him, the accused continued to shout and refused to listen. Mirza then dialled ‘100’ to report the incident to the police. A police officer said, “The rickshaw driver allegedly reversed his vehicle in an attempt to flee, but in the process, he ran over Mirza’s right foot, badly injuring him. The accused fled the scene without stopping to help.”

Speaking with mid-day, Mirza said, “My bus was halted at the signal near Kherwadi. Suddenly, from the left side, an auto driver tried to go ahead. I instructed him that there was no space, but he still tried and his auto got stuck there. After that, he grabbed my shirt and dragged me out of the bus. He also assaulted me.”

According to Mirza, traffic police officials were also present at the spot. “I immediately called on ‘100’ and complained. As the auto driver tried to escape from the spot, he ran over my foot, causing a fracture. I managed to take photos of the auto before he escaped,” Mirza said.

Following the incident, Mirza sought medical treatment and subsequently lodged a complaint along with Kamble at Bandra police station. Police have registered the FIR against the rickshaw driver under sections related to rash driving, causing hurt, and endangering human life under BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act.
