The bus hit a traffic signal post near Chembur
A BEST bus driver on bus route number 381 suffered from a heart attack while driving, leading to losing control over the vehicle, dashing it against a signal post and a vegetable vendor near Chembur. There were no injuries reported to any passengers inside the bus.
The bus (MH01-LA6169) plies on the Ghatkopar to Tata Power House Chembur and the incident occurred at the Basant Park signal with the unwell driver Haridas Patil immediately moved to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. He regained consciousness at the hospital and is now recuperating.

A BEST spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that it occurred at around 10:45 am there were nine passengers in the bus and one among them was a policeman. The policeman inside the bus called a police vehicle immediately and rushed the ailing driver to the hospital immediately. This is the second incident in a span of two days, involving a BEST bus accident. On Saturday, about 17 passengers- later the number was scaled down to 13- were injured after a BEST bus swerved to save a biker and hit a divider near Vikhroli.

"Bus driver Haridas Patil had quit tobacco habits in 2017 under Tobacco-free BEST campaign. During periodic medical tests at the BEST last year, he was detected of diabetes and necessary treatment was being given to him. As results of above efforts he could able survived from present cardiac emergency," BEST’s chief medical officer Anil Kumar Singal said.
Singal said under the Swast Hridya Abhiyan, the BEST Undertaking has been taking various masseurs to modify risk factors for heart diseases, as a result, there is a significant reduction in employees requiring cardiac intervention like Angioplasty and bypass surgery in last five years.
He added that in the last five years more than 500 asymptomatic employees suffering from Ischemic heart disease are identified and treated accurately.
