In Ravi Raja's ward, 170 tablets will be distributed to student
Ravi Raja, leader of opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will get nearly Rs 1 crore to procure laptops and tablets for students in his ward, two years after he had come down heavily on a similar move by a Shiv Sena corporator. Other corporators have criticised the plan, calling it special treatment of students in specific wards. The BMC has 227 wards in the city.
A proposal that will be tabled before the BMC’s standing committee on Wednesday seeks approval for supply of 140 laptops and 170 tablets students in ward number 176, which is represented by the Congress leader and covers few areas in Sion. It says the laptops will be given to students who have passed Class 9 and 10, while the tablets will be distributed to those who have cleared Stds VII and VIII.
